Sue-Ann Roll is a Melbourne based artist specialising in graphite portraits, pastel life drawings and oil paintings. Personalised with a sense of connection, Sue-Ann’s body of works are classical with a modern twist.

Sue-Ann has always had a pencil in her hand. With a Bachelor of Fine Art she become an Art & Graphic Communications teacher and today she is a practicing artist, specialising in life drawing and portraiture.

In 2014 she attended the Accademia D’Arte in Florence where she had exposure to working with artists from all around the world exchanging various techniques and sharing memorable moments from their past.

In 2018 Sue-Ann was extremely privileged to experience private tutelage from the renowned Professor Sergey Chubirko who teaches the Renaissance academic style of figure drawing focusing on the anatomy at the Russian School of Art in Florence. She found these classes awe-inspiring and it made a major impact on her artistic life.

In Melbourne, Sue-Ann is a member of the Hawthorn Artists Society (HAS) where she regularly enjoys the studio atmosphere and the diversity of the models. Here she works with soft pastel on paper as well as oil pastels on polymer paper.

Alongside this Sue-Ann has been focusing on portraits at her home studio. Graphite (pencil) on linen paper.

“I have stayed away from formal portraits and have tried to capture that certain unique moment in time that defines the subject through my eyes and my relationship with that person. The media personalities that I have used are from photos that I really relate to but I still add my own interpretation.”
